I'm in! I'm gonna be in an art show!!

Eeeeeeeeek! Y'all, I'm so stinkin' excited!!

This whole week has been a whirlwind. Jurying was Monday, I found out about 4pm that two of the five pieces I submitted were accepted, and then I had to race downtown to pick up the other three before 6pm (traffic just gets worse and worse during that time of day). Then it was dinnertime and bedtime and all that jazz.

I spent almost all of the next day trying to put together a one page Artist's Statement and CV—I haven't written a resume in nearly 20 years and hadn't ever even heard of a CV (which stands for curriculum vitae) until very recently, so that was slightly brain melting. But I did it!

Installation is happening this week and the opening ceremony is TOMORROW.

Tomorrow I get to go see my work in an art show!!!

From May 3rd through June 1st, if you happen to be in Honolulu, Hawaii, be sure to stop by the Downtown Art Center to check out Fiber Hawai'i 2024!

Ah, it's going to be great.

I can't wait to see all the different pieces of fiber related art displayed together. It's going to be so awesome!!

Oh, wait, you probably want to know which ones they selected, right? These two!

If you missed my livestream in the Facebook group last week, you can catch the replay here to see all five tapestries and get more information on how I make them:

And if you're feeling inspired to make your own tapestry? I'd love to hear about it! Hit reply and let me know how you're thinking about making yours and if you have any questions.

If there's enough interest, I could put together a workshop? Let me know if that's something you'd like to do!

All right, I'm off to pick out my outfit for tomorrow! Attire is Aloha casual, so it sounds pretty chill. Hmm, I should probably make myself a lightweight shawl to wear with my Hawaii dresses, don't you think? Adding it to the to do list!

Cheers, my friends!

P.S. I got my first shipment of the Heritage Wool Collection from Indie Untangled! Join me live in the Facebook group tomorrow, Friday the 3rd, at 1 pm Pacific /4 pm Eastern for the unboxing. The colorway is called Gossamer and it was dyed by Megs and Co., inspired by the delicate wings of moths in the springtime. I can't wait to see it!

P.P.S. One last look at our handsome resident Plover. This was one of the last times I saw him before he took flight for Alaska last month to start a new family.

So Patreon has a new feature. I'm now able to "sell" individual posts. Which sounds a little weird, I know. But then I thought... well, what about my pattern previews? Typically I only make those available to Patrons (paid tiers begin at just $2 a month). But what if I made those available for just $5 each? Kind of like my older patterns. You know, the ones that haven't been tested or tech edited or all the other things that require a lot of time and other resources to take a pattern from...

I just got back home after my first appointment with an occupational therapist for my thumb injury. And I have homework! The thumb exercises feel a little silly, but I recognize the importance of encouraging mobility. She also sent me home with instructions to make a rice sock, ha ha, but I'd forgotten that we already had one! It was nice to get confirmation on applying heat, though. I did a little heat therapy while I was there, too. It was a strange little machine. Check this thing out: My...

I got the email yesterday that my work was not selected for the art show I recently submitted to. It's a bummer, true, and yes, I feel some disappointment. But I'm still proud of myself for putting my work out there. For standing up for myself and claiming the title of Artist. For trying. Because you can't get a YES if you don't brave the NOs. And you know what? A new friend of mine DID get into the show! So I'm excited to go show her some support and am looking forward to volunteering for...
