Unboxing Ebb Tide: Heritage Wool Collective from Indie Untangled

Last week I mentioned putting some of my artwork on fabric, like maybe through a Spoonflower shop, and I got so many sweet and encouraging responses! Thank you for that. <3

If you're not familiar with my paintings, you can see a few examples here, although I need to update that page because the Society6 links don't work since they changed the way they do things. Hashtag sadface.

You can also take a peek at one of my most recent little paintings over on Patreon, where I shared about our trip to the Big Island at the beginning of the summer. I've made the post public for a limited time!

Now.

Let's dig into some yarn mail!

You may remember my last unboxing, featuring Gossamer, dyed by my friend Meg of Megs & Co, that was the second installment of the Heritage Wool Collective subscription from Indie Untangled. Which I crocheted up into a lovely little triangular shawl! (Pattern preview is available for members on Patreon.)

Well now it's time for box number two! Well, for me. It's actually the third installment in the series, but I didn't know about it until I heard that Meg was doing it!

The yarn in this next box is totally complimentary to the last one, too, evoking seashore vibes. It's called Ebb Tide.

It's a 2-ply fingering weight yarn milled by Battenkill Fibers with a blend of 60% US sourced Merino wool and 40% Romney wool from New York State. It should be a great yarn for accessories as well as garments!

The featured indie dyer is Rachelle from Moondrake Co, who is a new to me dyer, yay! I love "meeting" new creative people!

Ebb Tide is a soothing combination of this dreamy soft seafoamy blueish green shade along with creamy white and a warm, rustic brown that looks to me like it was hand-painted (maybe good for some planned color pooling???) with just a few speckles in the cream segments.

Lisa over at Indie Untangled had some extra stock of this special yarn from the mill (it was custom spun by Battenkill especially for this box!) and so she asked Rachelle to dye up some coordinating solids to go along with Ebb Tide. I grabbed a skein of Spruce and I'm so glad I did!

I'm leaning towards a rectangular shawl, maybe starting with a little stacked color pooling with the first skein of Ebb Tide. We'll see what my swatching reveals, though, and what ideas strike me once I start working with it!

Catch the video to see this yarn in action if you missed the livestream in the Facebook group last week:

And if you'd like to join me on this little adventure exploring breed specific yarns and indie dyers, be sure to check out the Heritage Wool Collective subscription box over at Indie Untangled!

Oh and if you missed the first unboxing, which was for the yarn I used for the shawl I'm wearing in the video above, you can check that out here. (I finally wrote a blog post, yay!)

All right, I'm off to work on one of those sweaters some more. See you soon!

P.S. I promised you pictures of that woodworking project, didn't I!? I made a wooden tray to fit Patrick's bar mats. He's been on a quest to find the perfect Mai Tai recipe since we moved to Hawaii, and although the tray probably won't help with that, it makes serving them for guests more fun!

P.P.S. Okay, okay. I know you really just want to see the latest in the feral chicken chronicles!

So this is Li'l Gideon and he's our very first rooster that we're getting to see grow up! All the other littles that have stuck around for a while have turned out to be hens. This picture is actually from a couple weeks ago, when he was still little enough to squeeze through the garden fencing into our backyard - he hasn't figured out yet that he can fly OVER the fence, but he's still hanging out just outside the fence and his rooster feathers are starting to come in nicely now, so I'm hoping for a chance to get another good picture of him soon!

(Bonus points for anyone who knows what show we've been watching that has lead to so many of our chicken names, including Dipper, Mabel, and Soos?)

So Patreon has a new feature. I'm now able to "sell" individual posts. Which sounds a little weird, I know. But then I thought... well, what about my pattern previews? Typically I only make those available to Patrons (paid tiers begin at just $2 a month). But what if I made those available for just $5 each? Kind of like my older patterns. You know, the ones that haven't been tested or tech edited or all the other things that require a lot of time and other resources to take a pattern from...

I just got back home after my first appointment with an occupational therapist for my thumb injury. And I have homework! The thumb exercises feel a little silly, but I recognize the importance of encouraging mobility. She also sent me home with instructions to make a rice sock, ha ha, but I'd forgotten that we already had one! It was nice to get confirmation on applying heat, though. I did a little heat therapy while I was there, too. It was a strange little machine. Check this thing out: My...

I got the email yesterday that my work was not selected for the art show I recently submitted to. It's a bummer, true, and yes, I feel some disappointment. But I'm still proud of myself for putting my work out there. For standing up for myself and claiming the title of Artist. For trying. Because you can't get a YES if you don't brave the NOs. And you know what? A new friend of mine DID get into the show! So I'm excited to go show her some support and am looking forward to volunteering for...
